As you probably know by now, the abs work in almost every movement we make, so it’s no wonder that you get to work it, while performing exercises designed for the back, or chest for example. Resistance training exercises are a great way to work your abs indirectly.

In many of these exercises, the abs are the supporting muscle for the movement. Keeping this in mind and taking it to our advantage can be extremely beneficial to build that chiseled abs of our dreams. In fact they are more beneficial if done correctly than poorly-performed stomach exercises. Let’s take look at some of these exercises:

Push ups

The push-ups are targeted at developing the chest. But in order to maintain that plank-like posture, you need strength on the bas. Next time you perform a push up, try tucking in your stomach. I’m sure you’ll feel the burn!

Pull ups

Although when you so a pull up you feel the work on the back muscles, your abs get tense as a rock! This is a great way to flatten your stomach without developing big muscles. A great midsection exercise!

Pull down

This is an exercises that works similar to the pull up, but here you have to pull down a cable down to work the back muscles. Again , you have the supporting ab muscles that will keep your body straight.

As you see, your abs are always working for you, and that’s why developing them can lead to better performance in sports. Take advantage of these exercises and work your abs even when not doing abs exercises!
