Why is it that most people find it hard to lose weight? If you think about it, the principles to lose weight are very simple: exercise, eat only until you are full and eat healthy food. You see, there are no real secrets to lose weight, so why aren’t you getting results?
Well, weight loss and the mind are linked together, and it is in the mind where the biggest effort takes place.
The first mistake people make when doing a weight loss effort, is thinking that they just have to lose weight to start eating as before again. In reality weight loss is a lifestyle change.
In your mind your goal is “to be slim and eat bad againâ€, this means that your objective, ultimately, is eating food. If you approach weight loss the right way, your objective should be “to be slim and healthy all my life!â€. Now, that’s a BIG difference.
You also have to train your mind to be consistent. Consistency is a big factor when it comes to losing weight, because half-ass efforts won’t take you anywhere. Our minds most of the time lack focus, and this plays against us when we want to lose weight.
So, how can you train your mind to HELP you losing weight instead of sabotaging you?
One of the methods I once read about is “pretendingâ€. Yes, just like acting, you have to think as if you were a slim person, healthy and fit. Live your life like this; this is all about changing your mind frame and seeing everything from another perspective. What would you eat? Would you put aside exercising? What would be your energy level? This is like acting, so do your best.
The other way I’ve found quite useful to control my mind, is through meditation. Keep it very simple: sit down in a quiet place, thinking about nothing, just paying attention to your breathing. If you have a thought, just simply “brush it away gentlyâ€, let go. Meditation is something that everyone should do to learn how to quiet the mind and have more control over it. Most of us let our minds control us, when instead it should serve as a tool.
