I have been reading Mike Geary’s “Truth About Six Pack Abs†for the second time and I have found out that Reading it fast the first time, made me forget about some things. One of them I want to talk about – and that Mike mentions in his book - is the concept of “the more lean muscle you have, the easier to lose weightâ€.
This is very true. Thinking about my own experience I came to realize that I have always liked to eat, my family has always bought delicious foods ever since I was a little kid (chocolate cakes, grilled chicken, “parrilladasâ€, you name it). However, during high school I wasn’t fat at all – BUT I used to play a lot of basket.
Later, when I started working on the computer, my weight started increasing. Why? I wasn’t doing any type of physical exercise! I was eating the same kind of things but I was gaining weight.
This has to do with the RMR (Resting metabolic rate) and is something that Mike explains better in his book, however I’d like to point out to you that the higher the RMR the faster you will burn fat while you rest.
There are diets that work at first because you lose also muscle, but in the long run they end up hurting your weight-loss efforts, because you notice that you gain weight faster (because of the loss of muscle).
So in short, here’s a good advice. Practice a sport, any kind of sport. Or run, but with intervals of sprinting and resting.
If you want to read more about this topic I suggest you to take a look at “The Truth About Six Pack Absâ€.
