The Long Road is Made of Little Steps

baby-steps.jpgDetermining your fitness goals is the first step towards a successful weight loss program. But many fail to consistently follow these goals, and I have found (from my own experience) that it happens because we want to change ALL our habits at once. That can be a bad idea, and we are prone to find ourselves resorting to our old bad eating habits.

So, it’s not about making a diet, it’s not about going to the gym. It’s about changing our life and creating constructive habits. This is done little by little. In fact, trying to rush things can lead to failure.

What to do?

Start changing just one tiny thing or forming a new habit until it becomes part of your day. For instance, when I decided to change my nutritional habits I first started changing just my breakfast. I used to eat about 4 pieces of bread, but I changed that to a couple of eggs. Nothing more, I still ate the same food and did little exercise, but forming that habit was a step towards my long term goal.

Over the next days the habit started building. Now it was time to form a new habit: taking a short walk before breakfast to kick-start my metabolism.

Do you get the idea? You’ll certainly won’t see incredible fast results, but you are steadily changing your life to something healthier. Big successes are made of little steps don’t ever forget that, it is one of the lessons I learned on my weight loss journey, and that helped in different aspects of life.

What is the single step that you can change starting today?
