Are you the kind of people that get bored after too much repetitions from the same exercise? You are not alone! In fact I think most people would rather do other thing than laying down on the floor and doing crunch after crunch. However I’ve found that there are also alternative ways to get the six pack you want without the need of traditional exercises, one way is doing martial arts!
I dare you to to do 50 side kicks, just 50 on one side and then on another. Next day, if you haven’t done kicks in your life you’ll feel like you have done a great workout on your love handles – Guaranteed!
Have you seen Chinese martial arts how they got their bodies all ripped? That’s because the practice everyday and they build a body of a warrior. They don’t do crunches or pull-downs or Pilate’s, they just keep practicing kicks punches – even without punching bags. This is fun and a great way to work your entire body. And most importantly, the abs, because the core is essential in any martial art. your abs are the core, what brings you balance and strength.

If you want to lose some weight and get ripped, here’s what I recommend you to start doing without the need of going to your nearest kung-fu dojo:
- Do shadow boxing. Just 15 minutes everyday, not only will get you sweating but will also energize you for the upcoming day.
- Practice sidekicks. If you have trouble with love handles, do 50 sidekicks on each side to make them go hard as a rock.
- Grab your old tae-bo tapes. Tae-bo is one of the first workouts that involved punching and kicking. Keep in mind though that you’ll need a little space to avoid hitting your lamp!
- Meditate. Meditation is an important part of martial arts. It will help you stay in peace and battle anxiety that can translate into excessive eating.
These tips will get you ready, but there only a certain height you can reach. If you want to take your martial arts/stomach training to the max, I’d recommend entering a gym or a dojo where you can hone your skills in a better environment where you’ll be guided and pushed to the limits.

I tried the side kicks but the first night I could only do 20 on each side. No doubt the next day when I got up I could tell I had worked my stomach, hips, thighs and love handles. They felt like they were pumped under the fat. I am going to keep it up until I can do the 50 on each side and just see what difference it has made. It was great fun and I’ll never to another sit up again in life. I got a much better workout with the kicking than I ever did with sit ups and crunches. Thank You for the advice. You never know it may lead me into learning martial arts even at my age of 56.
